A common reaction, and you're not entirely unjustified in it. Still, if it's even a little true then it shows that the mind has untapped potential.

Besides, maybe some people, the hardcore forever alones, could benefit. If they're never going to establish social relations with others then at least it's something.

Not particularly, just see the concept itself as interesting. The idea that the mind can hallucinate another consciousness and with practice create visual hallucinations almost at will is fascinating.
