the human being wants to progress. when you're a child you daydream about all the possible professions you could have, you want to become rich, successful, you want to chase your dreams. as soon as you're put within the circle of other people you fall, in order to make friends you have to engage in lame surrogate activities. you have to drink, smoke, take drugs just to fit in and even when society stands against those things you are still met with gossip, hate, jealousy. isolation isn't good for the mind but openness is somehow even worse. what is the solution? where are the good human beings? what should we do? I cannot take it anymore

I was like over 40 before trying a real drug. On a mountain climb and at a campfire with a doctor who rolled up some coke in a cigarette.
Great experience never to be repeated. Coke and my body just felt like 20 cups of coffee. Rare I try pot.

Tons of fun hobbies with no need for anything lame when the very real is so much one has to choose.

Ironically, it's complete isolation (no social media, chatting, reading threads, not even watching videos), just focus on doing your own thing, improve your skills, etc. Isn't that what people mostly care about? Creative works? Or games, software? You could even cook food if technology isn't your thing. Maybe even workout.

I went straightedge again and friends and coworkers are generally cool with it (even if social drinkers don't 'get' it really). It does feel like another reality.
After hitting my 20's and 30's I realized this treadmill isn't for me. I still work (have bills) but found the LEAST taxing work I can find that still covers living. In my spare time I garden - I absolutely would have been fine as a small time farmer peasant and this is as close as I can get without going Mennonite or something.

I think the best way to connect with other humans is through food. I haven't ate any proper meals in months and today I decided to bake for myself some chicken, marinate it in spices, olive oil and eggs and then feasted on it by myself. It felt good, it felt great even. If I had a way to celebrate I'd do it using food, I'd gather, harvest, slaughter and then cook for my beloved. Oh how I wish to find a lover I could cook for and share a meal together

I admire that; not much of a cook myself. Good luck on the human search, a good cook is a good catch.

Have you tried asking people on public transportation if they want to share a meal with you?
