the main issue is everyone agreeing to move to a single alternative. now the community is fractured into pieces. i'm honestly really sad about all this. I've had an absolute ton of fun posting on yli with everyone over the past 3 years since i discovered it. I'm sad my stay was shorter than most, but I'm glad I got experience it.

Anyway,

I've created a user script to download media packs from yli and i have a script to convert avif to png files. I'll work on exporting files and doing conversions of the files. There are really some great images on yli.

I feel the same. I mean, I accept that you won't get everybody, but with no clear choice it makes the fracturing more pronounced because everyone goes in different directions and that collective shared meme language is lost.

I think I've mentioned it before, but my favorite part of yli int was that everyone played along with the shitposting in threads. you could post something ridiculous and everyone piled on adding to it. I've tried that other places and just get insulted. Sopsy was right about the internet becoming a hostile and mean place. Yli int, generally speaking, was somewhere that wasn't hostile.

The internet became hostile and mean a very long time ago. Soppy is a hostile and mean person, as well as weak and fickle, for selling yli to people who had no desire to maintain its culture. He wanted to burn it all down, because he was deeply hurt that people weren't as servile towards him as he thought he deserved.

I'll miss yli. It was one of my favorite imageboards.

I've got most of the spurdo flags (only 54 are plain flags, but idk if they ever had spurdo versions because I don't recognize the country codes associated with any of them)
I've also got 63 holiday spurdos and 103 halloween spurdos, but these are all just ones I saved personally, rather than scraping the whole list of tlds with wget

sorry for missing that deadline, I found this screenshot which has 2 holiday spurdos that I don't have. I think it was posted by svelkolka/Cure Moscow though, so I'm trying to contact him and see if he has it as a png.

That's not even the most radical one though, I have one somewhere where it looks like some little kusabax "my first imageboard" type of thing.

Have you seen what it looked like in early 2012, when /int/ had just been opened? It actually looked normal. Then they started changing the layout to make it more phone-friendly and that was the beginning of the end, although the breaking changes wouldn't come until several years later...

I consider this to be a good thing. Setting aside all the greedy things that have taken place in the last 12 months, Ylilauta is the best imageboard software out there. Much better than the low effort vichan clones you already see shilled. If you're happy with crap stick with it, but I think imageboards should evolve.

Oh shit, I think I might have posted in that sticky lol, but it's too fucking long to check right now. Thanks for reminding me though, I didn't think to check for flags from yliluata.fi domain yet and there's at least 3 on that page that are not in my current set, so I need to do that too. Unique anonymous names for different countries was another cool feature sopsy killed.

I'm kinda mixed about that. I do tend to prefer that old school chan look, but I don't really need that floating reply box. There are definitely some newer features that I think would be nice to have though such as reuse of images instead of keeping a new instance when people are posting the same file many times. mp3/mp4 uploads and notifications are nice too. Uptääs maybe? Yolo would be neat to have again, if only because I didn't realize it was a function until after functions were removed so I never tried it. Obviously fuck levels and XP bullshit.

Nevermind, I didn't post in that thread. Too bad the images didn't get archived though, they were making the spurdos in there. The ones that weren't chosen are lost like farts in wind :(

Also, apparently spurdos switched from left-facing to right-facing between June and July 2012. Although (I guess) Turkey was made as a plain left-facing spurdo and then flipped when the kebab was added, because the crescent is backwards in the Blinkenworld screenshot.

leveling is dumb. upvotes/downvotes i could do without. having semi-anon user accounts like yli would be nice. the media reuse thing is probably one of the best features. I like the floating reply box, but i could also do without it as long as the HTML has proper anchors set for focusing.
