Initially their band was called "Joyspeed" that's the name they used when they were rising in popularity, when things were getting real. They changed to "Aqua" because they knew what they had done was unchangeable, they were going to burn in hell, but they were trying their best to maybe save themselves, and at least tell others their horrors. See, Aqua sold their souls to the devil for fame, and fortune. They thought it was a game, a joke, but when the inexplicable overnight success came, when their wishes were granted they knew the deal was real, too.
Every song Aqua does is filled with verbal, and sometimes situational irony. From more obvious songs like "barbie girl", and "cartoon heroes", where the irony is directly present and conceivable in the song to "Happy boys, Happy Girls", and "Around the World", where the irony can only be seen looking at the larger picture, this broad irony can also be observed in the over-all upbeat tone of the music, which is in reality a facade, of course.
The truth is that the obvious irony is to get the listener to be more perceptive to bigger messages, and other meanings, and the bigger message the message that encompasses all of it is "We are not real, our fame is not real, and nothing we do is desrved", and "aqua" is the most obvious irony, they are going to hell and water is the opposite of fire, hellfire.
Their last ditch effort to save themselves was to drop off the map, maybe if the devil couldn't give them endless fame then they wouldn't have to hold up their end of the bargain either. Maybe they could keep their souls.
I hope they turn out okay.

Yeah, they've been off the map on purpose to try and spare their own souls. Or maybe the devil caught onto them trying to cry for help and took away their fame. Like they broke the terms of agreement and lost the warranty. The song lollipop is about the 5th circle of hell.
