I can imagine the pain and sorrow that must course through the hearts and veins of all Brits when they realize that a bunch of farming yokels not only defeated what was the world's most powerful army/navy, but on top of that, by 1812 had supplanted Britain as the world's preeminent global power.
Remember --- in 1776, Britain had 6 times the population as the Colonies. And Britain still lost. This showed America that it could do anything. And it has continued to do just that in the 250 subsequent years, amazing the world.

No but on American military bases they have fireworks displays and even carnivals. Not because we are better than them but because they are good, hospitable, considerate people who like to drink and have a good time.
