In a loose manner of speaking, kind of. Legi0n AKA KKK were operated by Krapple/VanKrause, whereas 789 was operated by seanieb. 888 was operated by r3x, but recently NekoArc bought the domain and revived /i/ which is complete shit and nothing like the way it was. The way this is connected is that 789 originally hosted /cwc/, which later became /cow/ under n0chan (led by Krapple) which was absorbed into 888 as it is now. Krapple still has an admin position within 888.

A long time ago a guy who went by "CEO" started kkk with his own homebrew clone of 4chan's software's 'look and feel'. VK was a friend of his and got mod on the site. He also had the idea to create a forum dedicated to discussing Chris chan. That's how I found the place, but I also liked the other boards. One of the unique things about kkk was that any user could create and moderate their own boards.
When the anontalk spam on 4chan began to overflow outside of /b/, I got pissed off and decided to make a board for the purpose of shutting AT down: /fs/. At one point I happened to notice a thread on /b/ complaining about the spam and trying to organize retaliation. I mentioned the /fs/ board there and was informed that a place called 888chan had an active raid board with a thread about bringing down anontalk. So I headed over there and got involved in that thread.
Fun fact: I originally picked this name when posting on 888 to distinguish myself as the founder of /fs/ (and why I picked a tripcode ending with FBI). At the time, a typo somewhere on the ED page lead me to think Kimmo's last name was 'Alms' rather than 'Alm'. This had the unintentional effect of making a few other people think that as well. Eventually someone pointed it out to me and when I re-checked the dox thread on TC 1.0, I felt like a bit of a fool. But by then the name had stuck, so accuracy was a moot point. That dox thread also happened to be the reason I originally came here, although at the time I hadn't intended to get involved in the community. But I guess you all know how well not getting involved worked out for me.

Do you remember CEO's old URL? I can't remember it ATM. He came back a few times, but I mostly remember him helping Bruns during then. Can't remember if he had any ties to 789.

krapplekomputerkompany.com you mean? The only thing he has to do with 789 is pissing Seanie off because he accidentally deleted the awesomeboard software he wrote, and Seanie wanted to use it on 789. From there, things start getting political, so I'll just leave it at that.

So I posted on 888 fairly regularly and /fs/ acquired enough traffic through 888 to actually rank as the 2nd most active kkk board (after /cwc/). A few weeks after launch we got flooded by what was termed "cp". I say termed, because it wasn't remotely sexual in nature- it was just a bunch of generic photos of young girls like you could find on google. Obviously, by the amount of it it was apparent the person flooding us was obsessed with young girls, and since it was being spammed, I suppose the calling it "cp" wasn't too strange. But that's all semantics anyway. When it first happened, awesomeboard didn't have a multiple delete option like kx has, so I'd manually delete each thread and log the IP. After the second flood I requested that CEO add an option to delete multiple threads at once which he added by the next day.
Once I was able to delete threads as fast as they could be posted and block the handful of proxies the flooder was using, he turned to flooding /cwc/ with a picture of some guy accompanied by a cryptic message. Shortly afterward the board was redirected to a blog with the name OminousMusic. Then "OminousMusic" showed up in irc and claimed responsibility for the attacks. He also demanded that CEO completely delete the /cwc/ board.(/cwc/ wasn't set to have 404s, awesomeboard just didn't list pages beyond 20.) He said he had CEO's dox and would report him for cyber bullying Chris-chan if he didn't cooperate. This was a partially legitimate claim as BlueSpike and Ivy were both originally from /cwc/. CEO claimed immunity by virtue of being only the admin, not participating, and not being responsible for use-contributed content that didn't violate international law.
Somebody dug up some stuff from an old forum where OM admitted he was a pedo. Within 3 hours of this being announced on kkk, the posts were redacted. Of course this was pointless since we already had screencaps, and one of the other posters had quoted his admission in its entirety directly beneath the redacted post. In the end, there was discussion in a private irc channel that resulted in CEO removing /cwc/ and OM being forced to give up his dox to CEO and Alec as insurance that he wouldn't harass CEO in spite of cooperation.
