Have no expertise on Buddhists. I find it interesting that Buddha said:
"Monks, I allow you fish and meat that are quite pure in three respects: if they are not seen, heard or suspected to have been killed on purpose for a monk. But, you should not knowingly make use of meat killed on purpose for you."
Yet there are countries filled with Buddhists that will not eat meat and countries just the opposite.
Religion is never cut n dry. On life death n rebirth I am planning some Nirvana with Wine Cheese n Chocolate and a super Swing Band to dance2 2nite

I'm going to stop being pedantic but you don't understand the concept of Nirvana either. For a fairly simple introduction for Westerners... Alan Watts has some very accessible works (a lot of it available as audiobooks too).
Just stick to good ol' bacchanal parties for now and forget about nirvana in the meantime.

Actually I have read many many books on Zen Buddhism. And yes that is only one branch of such.
