Yes, you're contradicting yourself. If a band is over-hyped, then that means it receives great reception from critics and listeners. So that means that people are actually buying their shit. Their previous album, In Rainbows, got several million downloads.
I do agree that the current album is extremely weak, especially since it's less rock and more of this electronica bullshit. In Rainbows had a few memorable songs, Hail to the Thief and Kid A/Amnesiac were forgettable (even though the later were well received) but still better than many other things on the market. As for OK Computer and The Bends, those are marvelous and the reason for the hype this band has in the first place.
I at least appreciate the band's decency of releasing one album once in a while, as opposed to Rhianna and the like who do so every year.
