Topic: I just got approved to buy a suppressor!
+Antikhristos !M6R0eWkIpk — 13.3 years ago #23,240
I'm picking one up in .223 and going to put it on my keltec PLR-16. This is very exciting. The tax stamp was only a couple hundred bucks but the suppressors themselves are ridiculously expensive. Still it'll be nice to go shooting without having to wear ear plugs.
:D
Inb4: Why do you need a suppressor? Why do you need so many guns? Anti-gun lobbyist nonsense.
PS. I'm going to type up that article by Wasserman tonight and try to post it tomorrow after I help the mother in law move some stuff to her new house.

Because your life is miserable and seeing someone happy gives you a small glimmer of hope that you too could be happy once again. It'll be OK bud, things will get better for you someday. Lol, probably not.

How many rounds can you put through a suppressor before it wears out? I want to get the barrel threaded on my Ruger 22-250 and get a suppressor for it.

That's a very good question but I don't have an answer unfortunately. I would assume a quality suppressor could last indefinitely and the only part that may need to be replaced would be the baffles (especially if they're ceramic). I'll do a little research.
I've got a friend who also has a PLR-16 that already has a suppressor I'll post ITT tmrw (on my mobile and in the boonies so there's no way I can upload tonight unless I drive back into town).
I was going to get an nicer barrel for my AR15 and just avoid putting loctite on the muzzle brake but I'm kind of torn because there's some very nice stainless heavy barrels that would last longer and the AR is really for hunting. I might hold off and wait until I get an SBR AR15 or a true AR pistol. I've been eyeing the Noveske Diplomat for a while but the missus would kill me if I bought it unless I sell off a few of my guns to finance the purchase.

I just can't decide what to do about getting the barrel threaded. Whether I should take it to a machine shop, a gunsmith, or buy an alternate barrel and get that one threaded. I want to go through as little red tape as possible.

@previous (C)
I thought about going the tap and die route (even bought a kit) but honestly if you fuck up the barrel, there isn't much you can do. It's better to just get a barrel that's already threaded. They're not NFA regulated and you can have them sent to your house.
I had picked up a threaded barrel for my g19 from lonewolf but never got around to doing anything with it so I ended up trading it.
Anyway the red tape part starts when you start the paperwork for the tax stamp and start the process of actually buying a suppressor.

@278,526 (C)
Buy one. Or at least find a range where you can demo one. They're a lot of fun. I don't own one but I have a friend that does and it is a blast.
@278,566 (G)
I'm not sure where you've got this idea that I'm scrawny from that headshot but it does amuse me. I assure you I won't need a firearm to put you down, gramps.
Your daddy won't be there to save you either, although I'd like to think he'll be looking up from hell to witness you getting your ass handed to you. To be fair though I'm in my prime and you're well... cresting the hill. I'm sure this little tough guy bravado act is part of your middle age crisis and of course you're upset that a "boy" in his mid-twenties is more successful than you in every way. :]
Here's a serious question for you Bert, have you ever even made love to a woman you didn't have to pay? Maybe I've got you all wrong, maybe you're more keen on those 6th grade boys you know so well.
I bet your net worth isn't even $5k. The only thing you have going for you is a factory job and there's no telling when you show up drunk and get fired or they automate your job and you get laid off. It's too bad you didn't have the foresight to obtain a skillset that couldn't be replaced by a machine but then again you're not the sharpest tool in the shed and all that.
Truth be told it must be difficult for a middle aged man that subsists off everclear and Wendy's to try to be intimidating. Don't get me wrong I'm sure you weigh a fair bit due to your diet and lack of physical activity but I doubt there's an ounce of muscle on you. As someone that used to box I can tell you that actually fighting requires a great deal of stamina and I imagine you get winded walking to the bathroom or masturbating. So no, I'm not worried, and no I won't need a firearm to take an old drunk herion addict down a peg or two. I'll even drop you off at the curb of a local hospital when I'm done because I'm such a kind soul.
I hope I see you soon, gramps.

Honestly if I were going to spend that kind of money for a novelty gun I'd buy a SCAR, a dedicated .50 cal Beowulf AR, or if I could find one of the original ACRs that still had the "factory flaw" that'd be grate.
There are a lot of interesting guns out there right now though and most of those are old news. The P90 is neat but I wouldnt choose a gun on aesthetics or gimmicks alone. If you don't already have an AR that's where I'd start. They're a blast to build and you only need a few tools. The only part that's regulated is the lower receiver. If you're not very mechanically inclined go ahead and buy a prebuilt lower but you can save a few bucks if you buy one stripped and shop around for your components. It's a lot more fun to build it from the ground up anyway and a lot more rewarding then just dressing it out in goofy colors with aftermarket rail guards or something.
You can get or build ARs in several different calibers these days but for the first one I'd go for a classic AR-15 in 5.56/.223 then after that you can get cray and make an AR pistol in 9x19 or build an AR-10.
Just my thoughts on the matter but do what makes you happy, bud. <3

If anyone is interested in getting their own just do a little research into NFA tax stamps (they're only $200 on suppressors).
(The small black thing to the top right is a muzzle brake, the white thing to top left is a Bose remote, the cartridge below is obviously .223)
