Apathy is key.

What's a little weird (but brilliant) about this aphorism is that he's writing about the character of Raskolnikov in Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, who commits murder of an old woman in order to steal her money and better himself, considering his life to be 'worth more' than the old woman's. For the rest of the novel, Raskolnikov's conscience tortures him, until finally he has to confess. Nietzsche despised this kind of thinking, and it's interesting to me how he just dismisses the entire concept of 'conscience' with that one line.

To be fair, respect to you for knowing that quote (for those not in the know, it's from his short autobiography 'Ecce Homo', or 'Why I Am So Great', in which Nietzsche predicts that horrendous crimes will one day be carried out in his name - as in fact they were, by the Nazis).
You're still a sad middle-aged ponce, but kudos to you anyway.

In other words: doc, you read the same book in high school that I did. Therefore I must pay you a compliment in order to hilight my own brilliance.
