Topic: Shocking I No, but for the cost of $25.00 I just became a Movie Producer.
+Syntax — 13.5 years ago #19,608
The TV series which I did enjoy was shot in my hood. North of me up in Oceanside and South of me at a University and in between but I make no claim to seeing any of the shoots
The stampede to fund a Veronica Mars movie is "sort of like a perfect storm," according to Kickstarter
I think the $25.00 is not going to cost me $25 because I thought when I said ok let me pay the only choice they gave me was via my Amazon credit card and if I remember correctly on this new account they gave me $30 to sign up a few months ago.
AND They say in Feb 2014 I get a T Shirt shipped by Amazon

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/03/15/the-veronica-mars-kickstarter-smash-5-burning-questions.html
Six years ago, the CW canceled the sleuth drama Veronica Mars, which for three seasons starred Kristen Bell as a modern-day, all-grown-up Nancy Drew solving mysteries in the fictional seaside town of Neptune, California. The series may have been low rated, but is remarkable for the intense passion for all things Mars its fans had, and continue to have. On Wednesday, those fans enjoyed the geek-out of their lives
After six years of dreaming a dream
-that their cherished show would one day be revived as a film-creator Rob Thomas announced that the movie version of Veronica Mars was a go. And it’s those very fans he had to thank for it. Using crowd-funding site Kickstarter, they helped raise
-in just one day-the $2 million needed to fund the film project.
And it’s not just Mars fanatics that are squealing over the news. Fans of other long-canceled shows are giddy over what the success of the crowd-funding campaign could mean for resuscitating their beloved series, while pundits wonder whether this could turn the entire filmmaking on its head. Channeling Veronica Mars herself, we did some digging on the biggest questions about the burning questions raised by this crowd-funding success.
What happened here?
Fans really loved Veronica Mars. Creator Rob Thomas really loved making Veronica Mars. Actress Kristen Bell really loved starring in Veronica Mars. Taking all this into account, Thomas first went to Warner Bros., the studio behind the original series, about a year ago with the idea to have fans fund their long-sought-after Veronica Mars movie, so long as the studio agreed to help with marketing and distribution costs. Thomas came up with a script which would, shockingly, revolve around a murder mystery that Veronica helps to solve, and convinced
-and, he said, it took some real convincing-to get them on board with the idea should he be able to prove there was enough interest in the movie.
And was there ever. The goal was to raise $2 million in 30 days. Other projects have raised more, but their goals were significantly lower. The goal was met in just 11 hours, a Kickstarter record. Some big-ticket rewards for larger donations certainly helped
-the opportunity to name a character, host a screening for 50 friends, and win a speaking role in the movie-but most of the fundraising was done through smaller fan donations. With 28 days to go, the project has already raised $3.3 million.
The film will shoot this summer, have a limited theatrical release in early 2014, and will be distributed online and through VOD.
How rare is this?
There are loads of films that owe their existence to Kickstarter. Crowd-funding a film project is nothing new. There are 31 Kickstarter films currently showing at SXSW in Austin. Lindsay Lohan can thank Kickstarter for keeping her somewhat relevant---her upcoming film The Canyons was funded through the site. The makers of Christian indie Blue Like Jazz turned to the site when an investor pulled his promised $250,000. Kickstarter contributions revived the project, which otherwise would have been scrapped.

@241,292 (G)
LoL
Wot u all don't have a copy of my resume? And 95% of the reason for being there had nada (directly) to do with any of the biz the company was in at the tyme.
In fact other then ending up with the patents n licenses so as people could end up with Video DVD CD's cause the fact is DiscoVision was the bottom line when all was said n done.
Never ever said this b4 but this is a good place to bury it. I should not have been the one with such honors. Paul Gregg and Keith Johnson should have at least had some part of that Gig cause they got aced out and pushed aside and they were the Inventors - I had nada to do with the invention of the Laser disc system
OTHER THEN MAKING IT POSSIBLE Picking up most of the people that ran it but alas I took the money and the stock of both companies as most happy and learned one hell of a lot about the Music biz on the side in one hell of a huge way n made a big diff for a lot of good people.
Currently have a cousin there as Executive and two ex-gf doing very well. Was invited back for a great party for the Charlie Wilson story and I busted my way in2 2 view all the stuff on the cutting room floor.
Even viewed Thee on film on floor (represented of course)

One day I might end up a crazy old fool trying too hard to impress people with my silly fantasies. I'll remove myself from the internet, and just talk to the nurses in the home. Maybe then I'll have my dignity.
·Syntax (OP) — 13.5 years ago, 11 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[T] [B] #241,316
@previous (H)
Impress?
Wtf? I R Electronics Engineer who attended and got paper work form several super UnI ok only the BSEE but all the units ++ for MSEE
AND IF YOU THINK FOR ONE Minute anyone who wood look at a true copy of my resume (in the Eng biz) wood be impressed with working for a Movie and Music studio????
Fact is I fudge the numbers re years so it does not look so bad. That biz is looked down on as nada Engineering so I bury numbers but make sure its all legal.
AND Unless one is THE Super Star - anyone else associated with music biz no matter wot the title - treated as low class crud - Horrid Horrid biz I did not get BSEE to end up in room with music makers shooting H into arm. Nor to pass the crystal bowles of white powder and man o man do I have a story about that.
At that tyme I felt so damn degraded it ain't funny. Heard some world class music in ways you never will - I miss that one part that I can no longer experience - but other then that rare chance - Horrid horrid hell of a biz for any professional to be around.
Thank you for letting me vent

I'll watch movies, and then believe that they are based on events in my own life. It will be a wonderful fantasy world. I will probably end up in an institution. Maybe my daughter will visit. Probably not.
