yeah, blender is better than CSM for basically everything. i've managed to cut out CSM entirely by just having .fbx and .obj files on hand, mostly from platforms like sketchfab and thebasemesh. you don't even need them for complex 3D, i've used really bulky, ugly, unoptimized photogrammetry taken from real life, pushing CSP to the limits and resulting in 500MB+ files, but that's an edge case that CSP handled really well.
i wouldn't even bother with it as a means of moving things to the material catalogue, since CSP can register layers as materials with a single button click. and while the CSP material catalogue is nice to have, having direct access to files outside of CSP is better on basically every occasion, since it's a nightmare to actually get things *out* of the CSP material catalogue.
