Pop culture has always been repellent to me, especially since it's contrived as opposed to being organic. Memetic desire and envy inform what becomes mainstream but memes always go stale beyond the expiration date. The fad usually fades when everyone gets burnout, which is good since "jive turkey" officially expired in 1976.
