The leader and his cult may be knowledgeable about some things but I don't consider the willful ignorance particularly 'smart' or strong. Only a weak person can pledge blind allegiance to a demagogue. Express hatred of bogeymen is also a highly irrational response. Plus they think he is innocent and obsess over conspiratorial distractions. I think they're too afraid to think for themselves.
