Good points, but it seems those concepts weren't so much lost but perverted. When the phrase 'American Dream' was coined during the Depression it was about equal opportunity and dignity of all until hollywood made it about fame and a life of excess. Cooperation and competition are both necessary in nature for the survival of a species, in economics and in sport /combat scenarios, but the 'system of natural liberty' which informed our founding documents encourages both the principles of subsidiarity and solidarity. But with so many distractions these days, concensus doesn't appear to favor cooperation for survival's sake so much as the idea of dominance. Hope and labor lost.
